Once Human asks fans to write positive reviews on Steam – Delete the request rather than a bad patch going live

That was probably nothing: The developers of Once Human asked on Reddit for their game to be rated positively on Steam. However, they had to withdraw the request after the bad patch on July 18th. The update brought two serious problems.

That was the plan:

  • As the US site Kotaku reports, the developers of Once Human asked players on Reddit to write positive reviews on Steam. The reviews there were only “mixed” – despite the high number of players. Because Once Human is actually well received, even by players who don’t pay.
  • Apparently, the Chinese publisher NetEase and Starry Studio wanted to achieve with this request that “Once” Human would move to the Steam rating “positive” or higher. Then the review rating on Steam would get a green color, which looks like a purchase signal.
  • But the request for good reviews came at the wrong time.

Players lose their bases and items after patch

That was the problem: The new July 18 patch for Once Human was so full of bugs that it made reddit feel sour. The patch caused players to lose items and even their bases that they had put a lot of time into.

    The bases simply lacked walls.

    Developers promise solution and compensation

This is how the developers react: The developers have deleted the request for positive reviews and apologized for the problems in the game.

It was said via Discord that both problems had been identified: both the fact that you lose items when you put them in the safe and the difficulties in building bases.

They are working on a solution “as quickly as possible” – lost items will be replaced. Players who were affected by the patch will be compensated.

What should we do now? The game’s first major update will include new modes for PvE and PvP, as well as a new mountain region in the north of Once Human, as well as monsters and challenges.

Reviews on Steam are now close to “Positive”

Despite the problems, the request for positive reviews seems to have had an effect: the reviews on Steam are currently at 70% – that’s “mostly positive”, even if only a hair’s breadth. At 69%, the nice light green disappears and you’re back to the yellow “mixed”.
