In 2004, the cinema release of Million Dollar Baby is making waves. Clint Eastwood’s drama about a boxing coach reluctant to get attached to others and a young woman who dreams of getting into the ring is a critical and popular success. Not only has it grossed over $216 million worldwide, it has also won four Oscars: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Hillary Swank and Best Supporting Actor for Morgan Freeman.
The story of Frankie and Maggie particularly moved the audience. Although neither of them existed in reality, Million Dollar Baby remains inspired, at least in part, by some true stories. Indeed, the screenplay is inspired by semi-autobiographical short stories written by a certain FX Toole. This pseudonym is in reality a pen name of Jerry Boyd, who was a former professional trainer in the boxing world.
Synopsis – Frankie (Clint Eastwood) is a boxing trainer who was once famous in the fighting world. Now, he runs a small neighborhood gym with his friend Scrap (Morgan Freeman). One day, Maggie Fitzgerald (Hilary Swank) comes to ask him to train her. At first reluctant, Frankie ends up making the young girl a real champion who knocks out all her opponents.
