Crowdstrike’s flawed update affected more than 8.5 million Windows machines | News in brief

Crowdstrike’s problems were caused by the company’s faulty antivirus update on Friday.

The worldwide communication problem that started on Friday has affected 8.5 million computers using the Windows system around the world, the Microsoft company estimated on Friday.

That’s less than one percent of all machines running the Windows operating system, Microsoft’s director of cybersecurity David Weston reviews in a blog post published on Saturday.

Crowdstrike’s problems were caused by the company’s botched antivirus update, which affected media publishing, IT companies, banks and airlines. The faulty update was rolled out globally.

It is probably the biggest telecommunications problem in history to date, The BBC estimates.

Thousands of flights had to be canceled and health care systems in different parts of the world went haywire due to a botched update.
