In the Assembly the presidential camp obtains six commissions LFI

After another morning of tensions, the presidential camp obtained six of the eight committee presidencies in the National Assembly this Saturday, July 20. Insoumis Eric Coquerel was re-elected to the presidency of the Finance Committee, which is allocated to the opposition and was coveted by the right.

In Francethe designations within The national assembly end this Saturday. New twists and turns have taken place. The votes were once again bitter and disputed, particularly for the highly coveted presidency of the Finance Committee. The outgoing majority, the presidential camp, had decided to weigh in on the vote, contrary to custom. It was not enough. The Insoumis Eric Coquerel was finally re-elected to his great satisfaction. I am all the more proud to say that this attempt has been foiled. Not only because I am elected, but because I think that it is totally contrary to the prevailing spirit, that is to say that the chairman of the Finance Committee should be the guarantor of control over the implementation of the budget. “, declared Eric Coquerel at the microphone ofAurelien Devernoix.

Eric Coquerel was facing the elected representative of the Republican Right (ex-LR) Véronique Louwagie who nevertheless had the support of the central bloc at the end of an agreement concluded between the two group presidents Gabriel Attal and Laurent Wauquiez on the distribution of key positions. This agreement had been denounced as a ” corruption pact » by RN Jean-Philippe Tanguy who also coveted this presidencyresponsible in particular for supervising the budget and which has been held since 2007 by a member of parliament from a group that has declared itself in opposition. Eric Coquerel has however promised to resign if Emmanuel Macron appoints a Prime Minister from the New Popular Front.

The New Popular Front also obtained the presidency of the Cultural Affairs Committee but suffered a double disappointment in sustainable development and especially in the powerful Laws Committee. The latter was won by the presidential alliance, thanks to the support of the National Rally.

In the early hours of Saturday, the New Popular Front (NFP), the largest bloc in the new Assembly, managed to grab nine of the 12 secretarial posts, securing a majority in this body responsible in particular for deciding on sanctions against deputies.

The National Rally is empty-handed

Marine Le Pen’s party emerged from this sequence completely empty-handed. None of the six vice-presidenciesno quaestor position out of the three at stake, not even one secretary out of twelve: Marine Le Pen and her allies have been barred from positions in the bureau of the Assembly, its highest executive body. We have voted in every election for candidates representing the diversity of positions of the political groups. This is respectful of the rules of the National Assembly. The other political groups should rather take inspiration from our practices rather than denouncing them in an absurd manner. “, explains RN MP Emeric Salmon.

Two years ago, Macronie had granted the National Rally two vice-presidencies, in the interest of fair representation of the groups, as recommended by the rules of the Assembly. This time, nothing of the sort: the Ensemble pour la République (EPR) group chaired by the resigning Prime Minister Gabriel Attal had decided on Monday not to put any ballot papers ” neither for the RN, nor for LFI “, and to free itself from this proportionality. Marine Le Pen denounced ” shenanigans » and « purchase of positions ” Who ” trample on democracy “, depriving the ” 11 million voters » of the RN of representatives in the bodies of the Assembly.

No solid majority

However, no solid majority has emerged from this week of resumption in the Assembly. If the NFP wants to believe that its few victories prove its ability to form a government, the threat of immediate censure still weighs. There is, however, a consensus. With 193 deputies, but far from an absolute majority, the NFP claims Matignon. But it has shown itself so far incapable of agreeing on a name for the post of Prime Minister. The New Popular Front has the majority. Now, we must appoint an NFP Prime Minister without delay. Enough denial of the French vote “, insisted the rebellious leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon on the X platform on Saturday.

This entry into the race of the new Assembly suggests the strong tensions that will run through this 17th legislature and the narrowness of the path that could lead to the formation of a stable government. It is now up to Emmanuel Macron to position himself, ” I’m fed up “, sighs a deputy from the presidential camp, his features drawn.
