A boat carrying migrants caught fire while moving off the coast of Cap Haiti in Haiti. Police who arrived at the scene said the incident occurred during a ‘voodoo’ ritual.
According to a statement by the International Organization for Migration, 40 people lost their lives and many were injured in the incident.

Some migrants who were rescued from the fire said that the fire started and spread rapidly when a passenger lit a candle for a “voodoo spell” on the boat, which was filled with gasoline in order to avoid being noticed by the police.
