Heavy fire in an apartment in Uppsala – one person got out

There has been a major fire in an apartment in Uppsala.
The police are investigating arson.
– A person must have been inside the apartment and managed to get out, says Fredrik Hilmersson, management operator at the rescue service.

The alarm about the fire in the Kvarngärdet district came in at 03:00. Both the emergency services and the police were called there.

– The caller tells us that there is a lot of fire and flames are shooting out of the window in an apartment on the ground floor, says Fredrik Hilmersson.

One person got out

The fire was strong and the emergency services worked intensively to prevent it from spreading to adjoining apartments. They also conducted smoke diving.

One person must have managed to get out of the apartment. Neither the emergency services nor the police have any information about the extent of the damage or whether the person had to be taken to hospital.

At 05:00, the emergency services left the scene.

– All the apartments managed quite well except for the one that caught fire, says Fredrik Hilmersson.

Investigating arson

The police have launched a preliminary investigation into arson. It is unclear how the fire was started.

– We will carry out a technical investigation as soon as possible, says Tobias Allén Svalbro, press spokesperson at the police region Mitt, at 09:00 on Saturday morning.
