Find Messmer
Where can I find Messmer? Messer is located in the Shadow Keep in Messmer’s dark chamber. You can get there by climbing higher and higher in the storage room until you find a path leading out in a southwesterly direction almost at the highest point of the room.
Follow the path past a fire knight to the place of grace “Entrance to the Dark Chamber”. Once you get there, you must now prepare yourself.
Defeating Messmer: This is the easiest way to fight the Impaler
You should know these tips: Messmer is a nimble boss. He has combos that allow him to fly through the arena with his spear to envelop you in fire. It is therefore important to wear equipment and consume items that reduce fire and piercing damage. We recommend the following:
Lionel’s Armor (Armor with the highest defense against piercing damage)
Flame Dragon Talisman +3 (Increases defense against fire)
Dragon Great Shield Talisman (Increases physical defense)
Cooked Crab (Increases physical defense)
It might also be a good idea to play with the fingerprint shield. The shield offers you great balance values, which means you lose less stamina when blocking attacks.
However, when using this type of tactic, make sure to play with the turtle, large shield talisman and increased stamina regeneration, otherwise you will quickly lose your composure due to Messmer’s wild attacks.
Last but not least, it is a good idea to only call your Spirit Ash once you have reached the second phase of the boss fight. In this phase, Messmer becomes even wilder and summons vicious snakes that attack and pursue you. So it is good to have a strong Spirit Ash ready in this phase that can take a lot of hits.
Weaknesses of Messmer
What are Messmer’s weaknesses? Despite his status as a god, Messmer also has weaknesses. Like almost everyone of his kind, he can be afflicted with poison, scarlet rot, bleeding and frost. He is also prone to losing his balance, which you can exploit to land heavy critical hits.
We will now look at Messmer’s phases one by one and explain how you should react to his attacks.
Phase 1: Attacks and Tactics
In the first phase, the boss calls himself “Messmer the Impaler”.
When Messmer jumps up and charges his flame ball, you should dodge as soon as he hits you and then again after waiting 1 second, otherwise the detonation of his ball will hit you.
Messmer will sometimes do light combos like a double slash, which you can easily avoid by rolling away from Messmer.
The boss also summons homing flame balls. These are usually created before a combo. Make sure you don’t dodge too early, as these balls fly at you with a delay.
When Messmer goes for his most powerful combo, he will ignite his spear, throw flames at you, and retreat, then rain a barrage of stabs at you with full force, then slam his spear into the ground to summon more spears from the ground. Distance is key here. Try to roll away from him when he stabs and don’t block. Then when he summons his spears, you should wait a second after his act before dodging, as his spears don’t shoot out of the ground immediately.
Sometimes Messmer will throw a spear at you when he jumps up. You can easily avoid this by rolling to the right or left.
Messmer also has an easy four-way combo where he slowly spins his spear and then stabs three times. When you spin, you dodge towards Messmer, while when you stab, you dodge to the right or left.
His grip is a deadly attack. When he charges his hand with fire, don’t run away, wait until the last moment and then roll towards him. This way you can avoid his attack.
Phase 2: Attacks and Tactics
The second phase starts when Messmer has lost over 50% of his life. Now the boss transforms. His eye is shattered and Messmer becomes the evil snake Messmer. Now you have to expect more aggressive attacks that hit the entire area of your arena.
When the second phase starts, Messmer will turn into a snake that will throw a fireball at you. Wait until the snake lands on you and then dodge after 2 seconds to avoid the explosion.
When Messer transforms back, he can send large snakes towards you that want to bite you. Block them or dodge to the right or left.
In a powerful combo, he will scream and summon many snakes around him that will try to bite you one after the other. Try to get some distance when you scream so you can see better which snake will attack you next. It is important to stay calm and dodge one snake after the other. Blocking would be fatal. Once the snakes have stopped, Messmer will attempt another attack by summoning his spears from the ground. Here you have to dodge again with a delay, otherwise the attack will hit you.
With his wild attack, he charges his spear with fire and then flies towards you in a whirlwind, before throwing you to the ground with a final stab. Only dodge when he flies towards you in a whirlwind. In this case, you should dodge towards him and do so continuously until he stops. When he stabs you to the ground, you should dodge away from him.
An attack comes unexpectedly from the ground. If you notice dark liquids forming beneath you, you should immediately get away because Messmer will summon a snake that wants to surprise you.
There is also a grab attack in the second phase. Again, wait until the last moment and then roll towards him just before he grabs you. If you run away, he will be able to grab you.
The evil snake Messmer also throws spears and here, too, you must dodge either to the right or left as soon as you see him throw.
That was everything you need to know to easily defeat Messmer. Have you already managed to defeat him or are you still trying? What do you think of the fight? Let us know in the comments!
