This Netflix subscription will disappear many French subscribers will have

One of Netflix’s cheapest plans is going away for good, and some subscribers will have to make a choice.

It has been announced for several months already, it is becoming reality. According to information from Tech&Co (BFM TV tech section), Netflix has started to notify subscribers to the Essential offer, who previously paid 10.99 euros per month, that they will not be able to keep this subscription. This cancellation was also announced in the letter to investors published this Friday, July 19. The United States is also concerned. Contacted by Linternaute, the streaming platform has not yet responded.

Subscribers to this Essential offer will now have several options before them. They can make a more financially advantageous choice but which requires viewing interruptions by turning to the Standard offer with advertisements (full HD, possible download and advertisements) at 5.99 euros per month.

It is also possible to prioritize viewing comfort, but then pay more for your subscription, either by opting for the Standard offer (the same, but without advertising) at 13.49 euros per month, or choosing the Premium option at 19.99 euros per month, the most expensive.

Since the end of 2023, it was no longer possible to subscribe to Netflix by choosing the Essential offer, but subscribers who had already chosen this offer previously were able to keep it. The definitive removal of this subscription is not a surprise, since it had been effective last January in the United Kingdom and Canada. However, France was not yet affected by this measure.

By taking this decision, Netflix confirms its new strategy of redirecting its subscribers towards packages that include advertising or towards more expensive subscriptions, with the aim of generating more revenue.
