About six in ten Democrats in the United States think the vice president would do a good job as president, according to a new survey from the AP news agency and the Norc polling institute. Only two out of ten think she would not.

Vietnam’s General Secretary of the Communist Party, the country’s supreme leader, 80-year-old Nguyen Phu Trong has died, according to state media.

As recently as Thursday, it was announced that Trong would take a break from politics to focus on his health and medical care.

Now it will be President To Lam who will lead the country instead.

Trong has served as secretary-general since 2011, which human rights groups say has coincided with Vietnam’s move toward increasingly authoritarian rule.

The International Court of Justice in The Hague will issue an opinion today on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories.

The statement concerns the land areas of the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip that Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war. The Palestinians consider all three areas to belong to Palestine.

Depending on what the court comes to, it could be the first time that the ICJ takes a position on whether the 57-year occupation is illegal or not.

The investigation has been ongoing since the beginning of last year.

The court’s position is not binding, but has great political significance.

In a separate case, Israel is being investigated by the ICJ after South Africa accused Israel of violating the Genocide Convention.

The sentence against the American journalist Evan Gershkovich falls today. Prosecutors are seeking 18 years.

The WSJ journalist is accused of obtaining classified information about the Russian tank manufacturer Uralvagonzavod.

According to Russian prosecutors, Gershkovich did this on behalf of the American intelligence organization CIA, which he, the Wall Street Journal and the American authorities deny.

The former national police chief Anders Thornberg, who was suspected of work environment violations by causing the death of another, will not be prosecuted for the death of police chief Mats Löfving.

This appears in a decision the Public Prosecutor’s Office published on Friday.

“It cannot be proven that the suspect negligently caused Mats Löfving’s death,” writes chief prosecutor Lars Morand in the decision.
