Did you not get into the training? Or did you miss searching? It’s not done yet. There are currently thousands of courses that are open for late registration.
For some, the acceptance notice on 11 July meant joy – for others disappointment. But there is hope.
– You might stand as a reserve and think that the reserve place is far back, but sometimes quite a lot happens in the queues, says Jenny Twana, head of unit at the department for admissions and student support at the University and Higher Education Council (UHR).
According to Jenny Twana, it is good to look at previous years’ admission statistics for the merit values to form an idea of one’s chances of getting in.
– Then the alternative is also to enter with a late registration for courses that are open.
– You can do that already now, even if you stand as a reserve.
Several thousand courses to apply for
On Antagning.se there are 11,672 programs and courses that are open for late registration. Of these, 4,017 courses and programs are at beginner level, which therefore do not require previous education.
Several teacher training courses, university and civil engineering courses and economics courses – to name a few – are open for late registration, as are courses in languages, programming and biology, for example.
The reason why courses are open for late registration may be that there are places left. It could also be that you want to fill up the reserve queue – in case the training is not full – and then be able to fill up from the queue, according to Jenny Twana.
Admission to programs with late registration differs in one important respect.
– When there is space, the applications are handled in turn order, then you do not go by merit. Those who register first are admitted first – if you meet the eligibility requirements.
Therefore, it is good to register as soon as possible. You also have to be prepared that the announcement may come late, says Jenny Twana.
Opportunity to try
Many of the courses that are open to late registration are single courses. Even if you are focused on an education with a certain program structure, it is often possible to combine courses for a degree. Another option is to start reading courses and take credit for them in case you enter the education later, says Jenny Twana.
– It could be an excellent opportunity to start testing as well. Some are a little unsure about going into college and university studies. You can start with a course that is interesting and relevant, and not jump into the program at once, she says.
FACTSImportant dates to keep track of
Thursday 11 July: Admission notice with response requirements. If you have been accepted to a course or have been given a reserve place, you must accept to keep your place. This is done on My pages on Antagning.se.
Friday 19 July: Last day to answer.
Thursday 25 July: Second admission notice. In the second selection, you are tested based on the answers given earlier. If you have been accepted and want your place or want to remain as a reserve, you do not need to respond to the second acceptance notice. The only thing you need to do is wait for instructions about registration or possible reserve admission.
