Adam Topp, who will take the helm Oct. 1, has more than 30 years of experience in the sector, an alliance release said Thursday.
“I very much look forward to joining Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and settling in the community of Chatham-Kent,” Topp said.
“I was especially drawn to CKHA’s vision of Together, Growing a Healthier Community. The implied reference to a rural community resonates with me as a one-time farmer.
“Also, the focus on partnerships and relationships in CKHA’s vision fits well with the key aspects of community hospital progress that I’ve always supported in my work with hospitals and health-care organizations. I am passionate about the potential for CKHA to continue to grow a healthier community.”

His past roles include: president and chief executive of Shared Health Manitoba; director of health transformation for that province’s Priorities and Planning Committee Secretariat; senior associate consultant for Hay Group Health Care Consulting; chief operator for the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority; and as vice-president of clinical operations, vice-president of corporate performance and chief financial officer at Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.
He is also founding partner and chief executive of Benchmark Intelligence Group Inc. (BIG Healthcare), a management consulting service geared to the health-care industry.
Topp has a combination of leadership in hospital clinical and financial government operations, as well as consulting, and entrepreneurship, the release said.

He has dealt with “complex strategic challenges including provincial health system transformation, health system ownership transfers and amalgamations, post-transformation change management, governance and priority setting, and facilities planning and redevelopment,” the release added.
“He brings significant experience and knowledge to the organization, and a well-established track record of strategic leadership, transparency and collaboration, with an authentic focus on patients and families,” board chair Deb Crawford said.
“I want to thank everyone in the community who played a part in our recruitment process. Our campaign that asked the public, ‘What are you looking for in our next CEO at CKHA?’ helped guide our search along with our executive search firm Mirams Becker Inc. to find the successful candidate.”
Topp, who grew up in rural Ontario, is moving back to the province from Winnipeg. He has four grown children, one of whom will relocate to Ontario for post-secondary studies this fall.
Former CKHA leader Lori Marshall officially retired in June. Aaron Ryan will continue as interim president and CEO until Sept. 30.
