In the 8th arrondissement of Paris, this Thursday, early in the evening, a police officer was injured by a man armed with a knife. Another police officer returned fire with his weapon, neutralizing the individual. The suspect, in a state of absolute emergency, was taken to the Pompidou hospital. “Intervention in progress in the Champs-Élysées sector,” tweeted the police headquarters, specifying that the prefect was on site. “Avoid the area, let the services work.” Due to an unwanted individual in a store, the police were called. Upon seeing the police, a man fled with a knife in his hand.

This person turned around and injured a police officer in the ear. The latter was hit “in the neck, at the cervical level”, specified the prefect Laurent Nunez. Another police officer used his service weapon in the direction of the attacker. According to a police source in BFMTVthe police officer was taken to hospital in an emergency, but his life is not in danger. “The individual was threatening,” insists Laurent Nunez, who emphasizes that the use of the administrative weapon “is entirely proportionate.” An investigation will be opened.

No terrorist motivation

The suspect’s life is in danger as he was shot. He is a 27-year-old man. According to the resigning Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, “the perpetrator was immediately neutralized by police officers in security.” “Unwavering support,” he wrote on the social network X. “At this stage, there is no terrorist motivation (…) The individual is not known to the terrorist intelligence services,” added the Paris police prefect.
