Israel’s parliament, the Knesset, has overwhelmingly voted against the establishment of a Palestinian state.

The resolution opposing the establishment of a Palestinian state was approved by a vote of 68-9.

According to the resolution, a Palestinian state would mean an existential threat to Israel and would destabilize the region. The resolution opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River, which refers to the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

In the resolution approved by the Knesset, it is claimed that the state would end up in the hands of Hamas and would become a base for terrorists seeking to destroy Israel. According to it, promoting a Palestinian state would be a reward for terrorism.

The Palestinian Authority accused Israel’s ruling coalition of plunging the region into an abyss and said there would be no peace in the region without a Palestinian state.

Leader of the Palestinian PNI party Mustafa Barghouti called the resolution on message service X the official death knell of the Oslo Accords.

In connection with the Oslo peace process in the 1990s, Israel and the Palestinian leadership concluded an agreement that was supposed to lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state in the area.
