Coach wants to help the game, gets banned for it

A trainer in Pokémon GO simply wanted to help the game. However, the help backfired and got the player banned.

What did the coach do? A friend of the trainer reports on Reddit that his friend has just reached level 37. From this level, trainers can access Niantic Wayfarer and submit their own PokéStops here.

These are then checked by other trainers and can then be unlocked for the game by Niantic.

The trainer did exactly that to submit his first PokéStop. The next day, he received an email from Niantic. However, he was not informed that his PokéStop had been activated, but that his account would be banned for 7 days.

Not the first case

Why was the trainer banned? The Reddit post included a screenshot of the email from Niantic. Unfortunately, there is no precise explanation for the ban.

It is simply pointed out that the PokéStop violates the rules and the account will therefore be banned from Wayfarer and Pokémon GO for 7 days.

Additionally, the email mentions that further violations of the rules may result in a permanent ban.

Is this the first case of such a ban? No. There have been cases in the past where trainers have been banned for submitting PokéStops. Often in these cases there were multiple PokéStops submitted by the trainers.

The number of PokéStops may also have been a criterion for the temporary ban. In the current case, however, according to the creator of the Reddit post, this is the first PokéStop submitted by the trainer.

What does the community say about this? In the Reddit post, trainer s-mores points out that in the past there have been networks of bots that have automatically submitted PokéStops.

These activities resulted in Trainers who legitimately submitted a PokéStop coincidentally being banned in a similar PokéStop.

He writes: There have been cases where a network of bots have conspired to approve nonsensical stops, and people who submitted similar stops have also been temporarily banned. It could be a similar situation unless you submitted, say, 200 stops at once

What do I need to pay attention to when submitting PokéStops? If you have already reached level 37 and want to submit PokéStops, you should first read the tips in Niantic’s Help Center.
