Russia says it shot down 33 drones overnight over the annexed Crimean peninsula. The country is said to have also destroyed ten underwater drones, claims the Russian Ministry of Defense.
Ukraine says defenses continue in a village in Kherson, where Russia has long claimed control.
The governor of Sevastopol, the main base of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Crimea, said earlier Thursday that the loud noises heard in the city were linked to the Russian army’s response to a drone attack.
Two drones are said to have also been shot down over the Bryansk region in western Russia.
“There were no casualties or injuries,” writes Governor Alexander Bogomaz on Telegram.
As recently as last month, four people were killed and more than 150 injured in a drone attack on the annexed Crimean peninsula. Russia blames Ukraine for the deadly attack.
Both sides have used drones extensively throughout the conflict.
At the community of Krynky in the southern parts of Kherson region, Ukrainian defense operations are said to be still ongoing.
“Ukraine’s defense forces continue to carry out combat missions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, including the Krynky area,” Ukrainian military spokesman Dmytro Lychovij said on state television.
Back in February, Russia claimed that its forces had forced Ukrainian soldiers out of the village, which was reportedly under Russian control at the time.
According to Lychovij, Krynky is “completely destroyed” and in ruins, and is now a place where it is practically impossible to hold a defense.
