Ultrafast Fiber, New Agreement Between Open Fiber and Ultranet

(Finance) – The collaboration between Open Fiber And Ultranetin light of the good results achieved, is renewed by focusing on the development of synergies in the use of existing network infrastructures, to support the “Italy at 1 Giga” plan made with PNRR fundsThe agreement will allow for accelerate the availability of the ultra-fast network in the territories, allowing rapid interventions to reduce the digital divide and facilitate access to essential and indispensable services. Citizens who will be reached by the FTTH (Fiber to the Home) network will thus be able to use the innovative services offered by new technologies directly in their homes: remote working, online teaching, public administration services, telemedicine, home automation and entertainment will be enjoyable without interruptions or slowdowns.

The agreement to reuse existing infrastructure is part of a broader plan of collaborations that will allow Open Fiber to further accelerate the development of the network built entirely in fiber optics, especially in the most difficult to reach areas of the country.

Open Fiber was born with the aim of ensure coverage of the main Italian cities and connecting rural areas and industrial zones through an ultra-broadband fibre network. With over 13.5 million FTTH real estate units on the market, Open Fiber is the main Italian operator of optical fiber and among the leaders in Europe. Ultranet is the company of the HGM spa Group that has as its objective the implementation of the fiber infrastructure, and has been active as a TLC operator registered with the ROC since 2018.

Giulia Sangiovanni, Chief Operations Officer of Ultranet, remember that: “Ultranet owns a network of over 12,000 km of cables and ducts and provides dark fiber infrastructure with a widespread presence on over 20% of the Italian population and aims to increase its presence in the next three years reaching over 20 million Italian citizens. The Ultranet network already connects metropolitan areas, industrial districts, islands and coastal ridges (Tyrrhenian and Adriatic).” Ultranet, adds Giulia Sangiovanni, “has developed a proprietary software focused on the Data Collection & Analysis of Industrial Districts, the primary engine of the Italian industrial system. Ultranet has the goal of covering, by the end of 2027, with fiber optic infrastructure (FTTO) over 1,500 industrial districts throughout Italy”.
