Police decision: Drone surveillance is permitted throughout central Borlänge

The police usually issue such decisions for special events, for example Classic Car Week in Rättvik and the People and Defense conference in Sälen. The fact that you now get a long-term general permit to be able to monitor a specific city district with drones for a long time is rare. Borlänge is the first out in Dalarna and the surveillance is a strategy for the fight against crime locally.

– We have noticed an increase in crime around the center of Borlänge and the travel center, says Erik Gatu, municipal police in Borlänge, about why they chose to monitor the center.

The area affected by the drone permit

The area in Borlänge stretches from E16 and the travel center in the south to Siljansvägen next to SSAB in the north, with borders at the railway in the west and Tunavägen in the east. It also includes the city center with the bus square, Sveatorget and Jussi Björlings square.

Drone surveillance must be evaluated

The camera surveillance with drones, so-called UAS vehicles, must be evaluated at the end of the test period next year in order to possibly extend it.

The surveillance is allowed between 12:00 and 04:00 every day, and the footage can be used as evidence in police investigations.
