Jonna Sundling breaks the silence about Kristine Skistad – answers the question everyone has asked about the Norwegian rival: “You don’t have to…”

Kristine Stavås Skistad has taken up the fight against Sweden.
Now Jonna Sundling answers the question everyone has asked about the duel with the Norwegian.
– You don’t have to read everything, says the star.

Sweden has by far the best national sprint team in the world, with skaters such as Linn Svahn, Jonna Sundling, Emma Ribom and Maja Dahlqvist who can all challenge for first place in championships and world cup competitions. It is not unusual for Sweden to have up to five riders in sprint finals, but there is one rider who has challenged – and even won – his fair share of competitions.

The big breakthrough

Kristine Stavå’s Skistad already broke through in 2019 with double JVM gold, but then a few tough years awaited outside the Norwegian national team. But last winter Skistad had a huge breakthrough, and after a total of five victories in the World Cup, as well as eleven podium places, there is no doubt that the Norwegian is one of the world’s absolute best sprinters.

But it is not only for the achievements in the track that Skistad has become so rewritten, and popular at home in Norway. Considering how many duels she has with top Swedish skiers, perhaps above all with Linn Svahn, it is natural that things get hot between the skiers, and Stavås Skistad has turned up the rivalry even more with several gestures towards Swedish skiers when she has won.

Sundling’s answer

Stavås Skistad could, for example, hold a silencing finger in front of her mouth when she won, and a couple of times she turned around even just after the finish line and blew kisses to her Swedish rivals. Nowadays, it is almost a given that the Swedish sprint stars are asked about the rivalry with Kristine Stavås Skistad, and many have thought about how much focus it actually steals.

In an interview with ostersund.se, Jonna Sundling, who is the reigning Olympic and world champion in sprinting, is now asked if it is not difficult with all the questions about Skistad, especially considering that the next WC will be held in Norway. Overall, it has been Linn Svahn who has received the most questions about Skistad, but now Sundling is also forced to break the silence as to whether it steals focus from her.

– I think it’s their job, Sundling says about the journalists’ questions.

– And if you are rewritten, it probably indicates that you did something good before. So they get to sign! Then you don’t have to read everything either…, she continues.

Absolutely right attitude Jonna!
