The aim is to turn it into a hub for shopping, dining, living and entertainment, the group said in a media release Monday afternoon.

Rob Myers, Jessica Myers, Don Tetrault of the Tatro Group, and Ron Nydam of JP Holdings and JP Contractors are partnering on the project.

Nydam and Jessica Myers were on hand for a media conference outside the mall to make the official announcement.

The project is now in Phase 2 and is set to break ground this fall. The release noted the complete redesign and revisualization of the 220,000-square-foot space will “bring a modern take on the downtown experience, while also recreating the lost history of Downtown Chatham.”

A complete rehabilitation of the parkade is also set to move forward, along with a new elevator, escalators and interior re-imaging.

Over the past several years, JP Holdings and JP Contractors have worked to restore the downtown with various projects, including new apartment units and commercial spaces, Sons of Kent Brewery, Dutch Market, many of the Retro Suites Hotel, and several other historic buildings along King Street.

The public will also be asked to submit ideas to rename the One Hundred King project.

Submissions are open from now until Sept. 30. Each entry will be given the chance to win a trip for two on a private jet, with further details to come.
