During the summer, most drowning accidents occur among children and young people as well as adults. It is something that the emergency services and the lifesaving society work hard to prevent and spread important information about, and there is a lot to learn.

You shouldn’t do this
News24 have previously written about what to do, and not to do, if the accident is imminent Swedish Lifesaving Society. What one should do is call attention to others.
“If you hear someone calling for help in the water, you should immediately call 112. It is also good to call for help yourself, at the same time as you intervene. This way you also get the attention of those around you, so more people can help and raise the alarm”, writes the Swedish Lifesaving Society on its website.
What you absolutely should not do is call for help unless you are in danger.
“Crying for help for fun is both irresponsible and stupid and not something you do, unless it’s someone who really needs help.”

The swimwear can be decisive
SVT West reported last week on another important aspect to keep in mind at beaches and bathing areas. Namely the color of your and your children’s children’s clothes. They should preferably not be dark because they are not as visible in water and can then make it more difficult to search for a person who is suspected of having disappeared in the water.
– Black is a common color for our swimwear, here maybe you can think about it and choose a slightly more colorful model, says Caroline Olaussoncommunications strategist at Södra Älvsborg’s rescue service association, which SVT talked to.
The rescue service has not issued any formal recommendation to avoid swimming in dark swimwear. Attention-grabbing clips on social media, however, show how tangible the difference can be, something that Caroline Olausson thinks is worth thinking about.
