Trump’s first interview after the assassination attempt: Should have been dead

Donald Trump is now talking about the feelings after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks tried to shoot him during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
– I should have been dead, says the former president to the New York Post.

Barely 24 hours after the assassination attempt, the former president shared the “very surreal experience” that nearly ended his life.

During an interview aboard his private plane en route to the Milwaukee airport, Trump told reporters at New York Post about his thoughts after the attack in Pennsylvania.

– I’m not supposed to be here, I should be dead, says Trump.

Could have been a fatal shot

If Trump had turned his head a little to the right when he gave the speech to the 55,000 audience in Pennsylvania, he wouldn’t be here. He tells reporters at the New York Post.

– The doctor at the hospital said he had never seen anything like it, he called it a miracle, says Trump.

Totally different number

On Monday, the Republican convention begins in Milwaukee i Wisconsin. The speech that Trump will give on Thursday is now completely rewritten after the assassination attempt.

– Had this not happened, it would have been an incredible speech. But quite honestly, it will be a completely different kind of speech now, he tells the newspaper.

Just like President Joe Biden’s previous statements, Trump’s speech will also live up to the gravity of the moment.

– It is a chance to unite the country. I have been given that chance, says Trump.
