In Baldur’s Gate 3 you will meet many cool characters during the role-playing game. But which NPC is actually the most powerful? We list the 9 strongest in our ranking.
Warning spoilers: The following list contains spoilers from Act 1 to the end.
According to which criteria was the ranking created? What is important is not the strength of the NPCs you encounter in battle, but rather the lore and combat power itself. Knowledge, intelligence and mental strength also play a role.
In this ranking we do not take into account deities/gods or the Elder Brain. The chosen ones, however, do have a place in this ranking.
9th place: Ketheric Thorm
Ketheric Thorm was originally a devout follower of Selûne and ruler of Reithwin. The loss of his wife and daughter plunged him into deep despair. This led him to serve the goddess Shar and later to Myrkul (god of death), who made him his chosen one. In return, Myrkul brought his daughter Isobel back from the dead.
Ketheric was given the ability to rule over the legions of the dead by Myrkul and was made almost invulnerable by dark magic. He gained his immortality and incredible strength by imprisoning Dame Aylin (Nightsong and friend of his daughter Isobel) in the Shadowfax and abusing her power for his own ends. He can survive injuries that would kill a mortal instantly.
In this ranking, Ketheric came in 9th place – but among the villains he fares much better: My 5 favorite villains in the ranking
8th place: Sarevok
Sarevok is a Bhaalspawn, is devoted to Bhaal and is downright evil in Baldur’s Gate 3. He is one of the heads of the murder tribunal. As a child, he was kidnapped by Bhaal’s cultists and was to be sacrificed, but a group of harpers saved him. He then lived as a street child and was later adopted. His personality was shaped by his adoptive father, Richtar Anchev, who murdered his foster mother in front of his eyes.
Incidentally, Saverok was the main antagonist in the first part of Baldur’s Gate and a possible companion in the second part. He is an excellent, sharp strategist and at the same time very strong. He knows how to instill fear in his enemies and strike them down cruelly. Sarevok, as the deathbringer of Bhaal, can kill some of his enemies with a single blow of his great sword.
7th place: Orin
Orin is an insane shapeshifter and the chosen one of Bhaal. She is particularly known for her sadistic joy in killing. She manipulates her victims and loves to play with them. Her shapeshifting ability makes her unpredictable and allows her to transform into any person to carry out her perfidious plans. Her dark family history, marked by abuse, intrigue and murder, contributes to her character.
Orin’s cruelty is also evident in Minthara’s story: she killed Minthara’s soldiers and then cruelly tortured the drow. She later infected Minthara with a mind flayer larva, turning her into a True Soul.
Orin is also responsible for Dark Desire, also a Bhaalspawn and possible brother of Orin, suffering from amnesia and being captured by the illithid.
