Sony’s new shooter disappointed with its trailer, but now the beta on PS5 is exciting

The PvP shooter Concord can currently be tested in a closed beta. Although the first trailer was not well received by fans, the first reviews of the beta are positive.

Why were fans disappointed with Concord? Sony unveiled its 5v5 shooter Concord at State of Play. The first trailer, however, was met with ridicule because the character designs were not well received by fans.

The design is the ugliest that players have ever seen. The characters look generic and the color combinations are inappropriate.

But Sony wanted to convince players with a closed beta. This weekend, players who are active PS Plus members or who have already pre-ordered the game can take part. The first voices suggest that the first impression of the game was deceptive.

Concord impresses with the “ugly” heroes

What do fans say about the beta? In the Reddit forum, some positive and negative aspects of Concord are emerging. The characters that players found so ugly in the first trailer suddenly become the highlight of the game.

Many users write that the heroes all feel different enough. The character models also look detailed. User CdrShprd sums it up well:

I thought I was going to hate a lot of these characters, but they’re really fun to play and I want to learn more about them. I’m most curious about the galactic guide that has everything about the story, but that’s not in the beta.

Other positive points are the solid gunplay, the elegant graphics and the fact that there are no server problems. In general, the performance is flawless.

However, there are a few points of criticism that Firewalk Studios should take a closer look at. These include the following points:

  • Not all characters are balanced yet. Roka and Star Child in particular are high-flyers.
  • The UI wouldn’t appeal to everyone. There should be an option to customize the HUD.
  • Some quality-of-life features would be missing, including an AFK timer and the ability to join a game after it has started if one of the players has left the match.
  • But all in all, the comments read as if the criticisms are things that could be addressed with future patches. Concord is scheduled to be released on August 23, 2024. The title could be optimized by then.

Many fans enjoy the shooter. Some players would be reminded of Destiny 2. But there is another shooter that is said to have drawn much more heavily on Bungie’s MMO shooter: “It served as inspiration” – developers of The First Descendant respond to accusations of plagiarism
