The plan will provide a framework for the municipality to identify and prioritize the delivery, upgrading, divestment, or new development of infrastructure, services and programs to meet the needs of residents over the next 10 years, the municipality said in a recent media release.

An open house is scheduled for Aug. 1 at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, Meeting Room 1A, from 4:30 to 7:30 pm

Members of the public are free to stop by at any point during those hours.

The open house will feature interactive presentation boards placed around the room for a walk-through experience. The focus of the session will include:

  • Project overview, purpose, background and study area
  • Goals and objectives
  • Parks and facilities inventory
  • Trends and best practices
  • Public feedback
  • Perception of current parks and recreation systems
  • Wants and needs
  • Next steps

Chatham-Kent staff will be available to answer questions and receive comments during the session.

The public is also asked to complete a survey available at www.letstalkchatham-kent.ca. Surveys are open from now until Aug. 9. There are multiple surveys available for varying age categories.

“This plan is a strategic document that studies the existing park system, facilities and recreation programming,” the municipality says on the website.

“It provides both a long-term vision for the municipality’s park system, as well as specific policies and standards to direct day-to-day decisions.”

The previous parks and recreation master plan was adopted in 2010.
