Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense is closely following Chinese test firings of robots in Inner Mongolia, over 100 miles from the island. The Air Force has also increased its readiness, the Ministry of Defense announces.
According to Taiwan’s Military News Agency, the Ministry of Defense has detected Chinese test firings in several rounds, without providing any further details.
It is unclear whether the test firings are related to China’s harassment of Taiwan. Last week, for example, 66 Chinese fighter jets were spotted around Taiwan in one day, a record high figure for this year. At the same time, several Chinese coast guard vessels encroached on Taiwanese waters.
China sees the self-governing democratic Taiwan as part of its own territory, and has not ruled out using force to take control of the island nation.
