What is inting and what is bad play is difficult for many players in League of Legends. The question has been raised again in recent days after Riot announced that it would be taking tougher action against soft inting. But you don’t need to worry, Riot has finally defined what that means.
What happened? On July 9, 2024, Pu Liu, the game director of League of Legends, announced that they wanted to take tougher action against soft-inting. They even wanted to use hardware bans, since it was now possible with Vanguard. In the tweet, he asked the community whether they should take tough measures right away or start with lighter punishments.
The problem is that it is very difficult to define what soft inting actually is. Some players are even afraid of being banned for bad play. Riot has finally clarified the situation and defined what soft inting is in a reddit thread.
Where there probably won’t be any inting is in the new PvE mode:
Riot gives 3 examples of soft inting
What does Riot say about this? The topic has caused waves in the community as people have also feared that they could be banned for a bad match, prompting one user to speak out in a reddit thread about how the new approach to soft inting will likely only happen at higher elo.
A Riot employee actually responded to the thread and defined what soft-inting actually is. He gave three reasons that would be relevant for a penalty:
He goes on to say that it is currently difficult for the system to detect these actions. However, the goal is to be able to recognize these actions and punish them accordingly.
When asked why people should be punished for perhaps accidentally using a summoner spell, the employee says that you don’t get banned for wasted summoner spells.
In the comment, the employee makes it clear again that there are currently no plans to take action against players who are said to be playing worse than the level expected of them.
