According to Meta, the suspension is being lifted to maintain equality between the presidential candidates ahead of the autumn elections.
– We have always believed that Americans should be able to hear what those who want to lead the country have to say. We don’t want to stand in the way of that, says Meta’s head of global affairs, the former British Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg to Axios.
Trump was suspended after the attack on the Capitol in Washington on January 6, 2021. In January 2023, his Facebook and Instagram accounts were reinstated, but with continued restrictions. Among other things, the former president has not been allowed to advertise on the platforms, which he will now be allowed to do.

After the storming of the Capitol, Trump was also banned from Twitter, now X. However, he was allowed back in there in 2022 after Elon Musk took over as owner of the company, but Trump himself has not been interested in coming back to the platform.
Trump has only posted a single post since his return, the so-called mugshot photo taken in connection with his indictment for trying to influence the 2020 election results.
Instead, Trump uses his own platform, Truth Social, which he launched after being kicked out of the major social media channels.
