Donald Trump regains full access to his accounts on Facebook and Instagram. This is stated by the ownership company Meta according to the news agency Reuters and the news site The Hill.
“Having reviewed our responsibility to allow political votes, we believe that the American people should be able to hear from the candidates in the presidential election on the same terms,” writes Meta according to The Hill.
According to the company, the timing was chosen in view of the two parties’ convention starting next month, the Republican’s on Monday. However, Meta will continue to monitor both Trump and other politicians, the company writes.
“All US presidential candidates must adhere to the same rules as all other users on Facebook and Instagram, including the rules to prevent hatred and incitement to violence,” it writes.
Ex-president Trump was granted access to the platforms last year, but with a number of reservations. They are now being removed and, according to Meta, he will no longer be threatened by the tougher rules that were put in place in response to “extreme and extraordinary circumstances”.
Those circumstances are clear that Trump lied about the 2020 election results and his actions during and after the attack on the US Congress on January 6, 2021.
After that, he was completely banned from the platforms for two years.
As recently as March of this year, Trump wrote on his own social network Trump Social that “Facebook is the true enemy of the people”.
