Flag bearers for the 2024 Olympics names revealed on Friday

It is this Friday, July 12 that the names of the flag bearers of France for the Olympic and Paralympic Games of Paris 2024 will be officially announced. Two names are already circulating…

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is getting closer. It will take place on Friday, July 26 and, two weeks before the big event, the names of the flag bearers of the French Olympic team are to be revealed this Friday, July 12, as part of the 8 p.m. news on France 2.

There was little suspense, however, since two names that had already been circulating among the favorites for several weeks were slipped in on Thursday July 11 by The Parisian who claims to have had access to the details of the vote carried out by the athletes qualified for the Games via an electronic vote. This took place this week, on July 9 and 10.

According to the newspaper, the swimmer Florent Manaudou and discus thrower Mélina Robert-Michon will be the two representatives who will carry the French flag at this ceremony in Paris. As a reminder, the host country is normally the last to parade in the Olympic stadium, but the ceremony, this time scheduled on the Seine, may revise the historical protocol.

Olympic champion in the 50m freestyle in London under the eyes of his sister Laure, gold medalist in the 400m freestyle 8 years earlier in Athens, Florent Manaudou also finished on the podium in Rio in 2016 and in Tokyo in 2021. Mélina Robert-Michon, also medalist in the discus throw in Rio, is preparing to compete in her seventh Olympic Games, a longevity record for the 44-year-old discus thrower who has once again qualified.

Florent Manaudou and Mélina Robert-Michon clearly beat Earvin Ngapeth (volleyball), Enzo Lefort (fencing), Estelle Moselly (boxing) and Camille Lecointre (sailing).

Two athletes must be selected to be flag bearers for the Paralympic Games. The designation process is the same as for the Olympic Games, with a vote by those qualified. The two names selected for the Olympic Games and those for the Paralympic Games must still be officially confirmed by the CNOSF following the French news on Friday, July 12.
