11:05 – The 2024 college diploma concerns a huge number of candidates!

This year, 858,409 candidates were registered for the 2024 brevet, in metropolitan France and in the overseas departments and regions. A number slightly down compared to last year. This is considerable since it concerns almost an entire generation! It is therefore an understatement to say that the brevet results are a rite of passage for young people, who move from middle school to high school with the tests taken at the end of the year and the diploma as their goal!

10:58 – How to succeed in your second year?

The brevet marks the end of middle school. Next year, those who did not repeat the year head to high school. While it is a continuation of the third year, the big new thing is the autonomy it requires. To avoid getting overwhelmed, you have to be well organized. Anticipating the work to be done and taking good notes are essential elements for the success of this new year. The pace often tends to accelerate after All Saints’ Day.

10:55 – Which mention for which result in the brevet?

As in the baccalaureate, distinctions are awarded based on the number of points collected in the brevet. To obtain the brevet, you must have collected a minimum of 400 points, i.e. 10/20, but if a candidate ends up with a number of points between 480 and 559 points, they are awarded the distinction “Assez bien”. The distinction “Bien” is obtained from 560 points while the distinction “Very good” concerns all candidates who have obtained 640 points or more.

10:54 – How to read your 2024 brevet transcript correctly?

The brevet assessment consists of two sequences, the continuous assessment or “common base” and the final exams which take place at the beginning of July. Each of these two sequences is worth a maximum of 400 points, or 800 points in total. For a candidate to obtain their brevet, they must have at least half of these 800 points, i.e. 10/20.

10:48 – The results of the 2024 brevet and it’s the (real) holidays!

This Thursday, hundreds of thousands of middle school students can say to themselves that middle school is really over! The results that are finally available mark the end of a cycle before arriving at high school. Remember that obtaining a diploma is not necessary to enter high school, but the results put an end to the suspense and allow 3rd year students to really move on and finally enjoy the holidays!

After three academies this morning, it is the turn of the Corsica and Reims academies to reveal their results at 11am. So who will have won the brevet?

The brevet is graded out of 800 points in total, combining continuous assessment and end-of-year exams. You need at least the average to obtain the diploma, i.e. a minimum of 400 points.

Continuous monitoring is taken into account in the grading, including projects carried out in class, like the EPI (Interdisciplinary Practical Teaching). The assessment of the common core is done on eight skills, each assessed in the school report through four levels of points:

  • 10 points for “insufficient” mastery
  • 25 points for a “fragile” mastery
  • 40 points for a “satisfactory” job
  • 50 points for a “very good” mastery

If the student manages to accumulate 50 points everywhere, he has reached the maximum possible for the continuous assessment part of the brevet, i.e. 400 points. Thus, he already obtains half of the points. You can consult the details of the skills of the common core on the website of the Ministry of Education.

The final tests of the brevet des collèges therefore represent the other half of the total scale of the brevet each year, marked out of 400 points. There are four written tests: French and maths are marked out of 100 while history-geography and science are assessed out of 50. An oral marked out of 100 completes the exam. The latter consists of a 15-minute presentation divided into two parts: 5 minutes of presentation of a project worked on during the year and 10 minutes of interview with the jury. The project presented was worked on during the interdisciplinary practical lessons or the third-year internship in a company.

The three mentions of the college diploma correspond to different levels of points obtained beyond the average of 400 points out of 800:

  • Mention quite good : more than 480 points
  • Mention GOOD : more than 560 points
  • Mention Alright : more than 640 points

There are also “regional language”, “college series, international option” and “Franco-German option” options.
