The South American country of Venezuela is in a state of conflagration ahead of the elections. In the polls where the opposition candidate is at the forefront, claims that current leader Nicolas Maduro will flee to Turkey depending on the results of the elections have hit the agenda like a bombshell. Peruvian journalist Bayly, who said that the elections on July 28 are very important for the permanence of the government, said, “Maduro and his supporters know that if the elections in the country are free and fair, the democratic opposition will win the elections by a wide margin.”

Turkey has increased its exports to Venezuela since 2018, including food and personal hygiene products.
According to Reuters, South American country Venezuela sold a significant amount of gold to Turkey, although the amount has not yet been made public.
Maduro, who made his first high-level visit to Turkey on October 6, 2017, made the following statement when he arrived in Ankara: “We came to Turkey because we believe in Turkey. We know that a new power is emerging.”
Maduro was hosted at the Presidential Palace, and five different agreements were signed between Turkey and Venezuela. These agreements included increasing the number of flights on the Caracas-Istanbul route, tourism, agriculture and livestock, and security agreements.
Maduro and his delegation also attended the inauguration ceremony of Erdoğan, who won the 2018 presidential elections, on July 9, 2018. Maduro, who attended the inauguration ceremony in Beştepe, later visited the set of “Diriliş: Ertuğrul”, one of the famous TV series of the period.
Maduro, who stated that he and his wife Cilia Flores enjoy watching Turkish TV series, mentioned that they have watched the series “Resurrection Ertugrul”, “Muhteşem Yüzyıl” and “Payitaht Abdülhamid” so far and said, “Resurrection Ertugrul was my favorite series until now, but now my favorite is Kuruluş Osman.”
President Erdoğan made his return visit on December 3, 2018. Erdoğan’s visit to Caracas was the first visit from Turkey to Venezuela at the level of heads of state. During the visit, 10 different agreements were signed between the two countries.
