This Sunday, voters in the 8th constituency of EssonneBrunoy, Crosne, Montgeron, Vigneux-sur-Seine and Yerres, returned to the polls. And the axe fell for Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, who after seven terms as a member of parliament, will not be returning to the chamber. According to the results communicated by the Ministry of the Interior, the president of Debout la France won 37.48% of the vote and lost to the candidate of the New Popular Front Bérenger Cernon, elected with 40.52% of the votes cast. François Durovray, third candidate in this three-way race and a miscellaneous right-wing candidate, obtained 22% of the vote.
In parallel with his own candidacy, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan had called for support for the RN-LR alliance led by Eric Ciotti in the constituencies where he does not have a candidate. “There will be an experienced government that will be with Jordan Bardella. I say to the French people that it is not better not to change course before it is too late for a three-year trial period than to stay with those who killed us,” he had declared on BFMTV“I am in total opposition to Macron and Mélenchon. Either the French choose Macron for three years of disaster, or Mélenchon and it will be chaos, or the path of the National Union. Today, I am delighted to see members of the Republicans who support Éric Ciotti join us. And I will work with this coalition, but as an independent,” he assured during his campaign.
