Russia Named Moscow Times Illegal | News in brief

The Moscow Times is an unwanted organization in Russia today. Collaborators of the magazine can receive up to five years in prison.

On Wednesday, Russia declared the newspaper Moscow Times illegal.

– We decided to declare the Moscow Times unwelcome on the territory of the Russian Federation, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.

According to the statement of the Russian prosecutors, the purpose of the Moscow Times is to put the decisions of the Russian leadership in a bad light.

Publishing news in Russian and English Moscow Times and news agency Reuters told about it on Wednesday.

The magazine, which has been active since the beginning of the 1990s, moved its editorial office to Amsterdam in 2022 after Russia started its large-scale war of aggression in Ukraine.

When an operator is declared undesirable in Russia, those working with it can receive substantial fines or a maximum of five years in prison.

In the case of the media, both journalists, financiers and partners can be accused. Readers who pass on links to articles can also be fined, the Mediazona publication says.
