The fact that the number of foreign tourists has increased is something that has been noticed at Piteå Havsbad. The site is listed as one of Sweden’s best campsites according to SCR Swedish Camping, together with Byske Havsbad, Leksand Resort and Gustavsvik, among others.
At Piteå Havsbad, total tourism has increased by 372 percent compared to the same period last year, something that TV4 Nyheterna was the first to report on.

They go to Swedish campsites
At the campsite, German tourists have increased by 79 percent and Dutch tourists by 89 percent.
At the same time, SCR Swedish Camping believes that 2024 could be a record year for camping in Sweden. In 2023, 16.6 guest nights were spent at Sweden’s campsites, SCR writes in a press release.

According to a survey by the organization, 56 percent of campsites believe that 2024 will be better than last year.
And German and Dutch tourists in particular have been somewhat expected by the industry.
– Swedish and Norwegian guests are by far the largest guest groups. In order to grow sustainably, we need to increase occupancy during periods outside the traditional Swedish holiday period, and then Germany and the Netherlands, but also Belgium and Switzerland are interesting markets, says Martin JuhosCEO of SCR, i the press release.

Escape the heat in southern Europe
The reason why tourists look north seems to be because they want to escape the heat of southern Europe.
– We don’t need to have 30 degrees, says a German tourist visiting Sweden TV4 News.
– It’s not as hot here as in Italy, says another.

At campsites there are certain rules that may be foreign to the outsider. Colored bands are often used to mark plot boundaries or to show that you don’t want unauthorized people in a certain area. It can also mean the opposite.
