In The Decameron, a group of nobles and servants go to an Italian country estate to wait out the omnipresent bubonic plague. Ten people tell ten stories each day over ten days, which often have an erotic or crude note.

The original, known as Il Decamerone or Decameron, is a collection of novellas by the Italian writer and poet Giovanni Boccaccio, which he probably published in 1353 (via The Wrap ). The time of the plague in which the work takes place is considered to be one of the darkest in human history. According to the Washington Post, the disease has killed approximately 25 million people.

Boccaccio’s novellas have enjoyed great popularity over the past 671 years, but they have also been repeatedly censored or even banned. According to the British Library, the church in particular took offense at the work’s portrayal of the clergy.

When is The Decameron coming to Netflix?

The Decameron will be released on July 25, 2024 on Netflix. The series will consist of eight episodes. Tony Hale (Arrested Development) and Saoirse-Monica Jackson (The Flash) will be seen in front of the camera.
