Some coins will change in a few weeks.

Changes in your wallet! While bank cards are changing over the months and historic designs are disappearing in favor of a new style, the means of payment in cash will also undergo some changes in the months to come. If the French are using their coins and notes less and less, the latter still continue to fill the Moroccans’ wallets a little.

In a few weeks, new euro coins will enter into circulation and will allow, just like everyday coins, to pay for purchases. These will not be simple collector’s coins but a new series with a classic value and produced in very large quantities.

Not all coins are affected. After changing the face of the 1 and 2 euro coins in January 2022, the faces of the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins are now being modified by the Monnaie de Paris. It is from this summer of 2024 that these coins will begin to fill the wallets of French people.

On these new coins, the figure of the Sower is gone, this woman with a Phrygian cap and a long dress sowing seeds, present on the back of these three values since the changeover to the euro in 2002. From now on, each will have a different character: the 10 centimes will have the face of Simone Veil affixed to the back, the 20 centimes that of Joséphine Baker and the 50 centimes that of Marie Curie.

Three women entered the Pantheon, chosen because “they are the symbol of a strong attachment to the values of the Republic and a source of daily inspiration for everyone”, justified Marc Schwartz, CEO of the Monnaie de Paris, the organization that designs the coins and notes.

The entire design remains unchanged, as the French flag is still represented by vertical and horizontal lines, the word RF (for French Republic) and the 12 stars of the European flag are retained.

These new coins will be produced for at least 15 years. However, it should be noted that the 10, 20 and 50 cent coins that you have can still be used to pay and that you should not try to change them.
