    SJ takes over the night train traffic between Stockholm and Luleå and Norwegian Narvik, according to a press release from the Swedish Transport Administration.

    The agreement is valid from 15 December and one year onwards, and there is the possibility of an extension for a further year.

    This means that the agreement with Vy tåg, which has been responsible for the traffic since December 2020, is not extended.

    The last time SJ was responsible for the route’s night trains was between 2008 and 2020.

  • Man seriously injured after WIllys brawl

    A man was stabbed after a fight at Willys in Nybro outside Kalmar on Tuesday evening.

    According to the Kalmar region, the man’s injuries are serious.

    He is admitted to IVA.

  • 11,000 were without electricity

    There was an operational disruption at Vattenfall in Solna.

    A total of 10,442 customers were without electricity.

    However, by 08:50 the problem was solved.

    – All customers must have had their power restored. I have no reason for the error at the moment, says Carina Netterlind, press secretary at Vattenfall.

  • Woman walked the dog – was beaten

    A woman walked the dog in Linköping shortly before 11pm on Tuesday.

    During the walk, she was confronted by several people who started kicking and punching her.

    The woman defended herself.

    The incident is being investigated as assault with reporting and counter-reporting.

    An ambulance was on the scene and examined the woman.

    – It is unclear whether she needed to seek medical care, says Jonny Gustafsson at the police.

    The dog must be unharmed, and was not involved in the abuse.

    – I don’t want to go into what kind of dog it is.

  • They have hunted women and children

    A man with a crush has hunted a woman and her child in Falkenberg.

    The incident occurred around 07.30 in the morning.

    The man, who is unknown to the woman, is still at large.

    – I cannot go into what kind of attachment it is about at the moment. We’ll see when we find him, says Jens Andersson from the police.

    The woman is 35 years old and the child is 10 years old.

    The police continue to search for the perpetrator in central Falkenberg.

  • Four dead in torrential rain in South Korea

    Parts of South Korea were hit by record-breaking downpours early Wednesday. Four people have died and one is missing. It is particularly Chungcheong and Gunsan, south of the capital Seoul, that have been hit hard by the heavy rain, which according to the country’s meteorological institute is on an scale that only occurs every two hundred years.

    Among the dead are a man who was sucked into a drainage system while checking his crops in the city of Daegu, and a man whose car was swept away by the waters while tending to his cattle in northern Chungcheong.

    In Gunsan, 131.7 millimeters of rain fell in less than an hour on Wednesday morning – more than ten percent of the area’s average annual rainfall.

  • ‘Mummified’ climber found after 22 years

    The body of an American climber has been found at high altitude in the Andes in Peru – 22 years after the man disappeared in the area.

    Peruvian police announce that the “mummified” body, preserved by the cold climate, was discovered at an altitude of roughly 5,000 meters in the Ancash region.

    The 58-year-old man was on his way to climb the 6,768-meter Huascarán, South America’s fourth highest peak, when he and two climbing companions died in an avalanche accident in 2002. The bodies of one of the three men are still missing.

  • Elderly man molested children at campsite

    The police have been alerted to a campsite in Fyrbodal where an elderly man has sexually molested a 10-year-old child.

    The man made contact with the child at the campsite’s toilet and tried to force him into a shower area, but the child managed to get away and ask for help.

    The police are on the scene and are investigating the incident.

  • Man arrested for shooting

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of the shooting in Åkersberga north of Stockholm last night.

    He is suspected of the attempted murder of a 35-year-old man.

    The injured man does not have life-threatening injuries.

  • Fire at hostel

    There has been a fire in a toilet at a hostel in Lund, the police write on their website.

    The toilet was available for guests.

    It is unclear why it caught fire.

    The guests were evacuated but were later able to return to their rooms.

    There are no reports of any injuries.

    An arson report has been made.

  • Serious accident with passenger car

    A passenger car drove off the road and overturned outside Skellefteå at 03:00 last night.

    – One person has been taken to hospital by helicopter. I don’t know anything about the damage, but it seems to be a serious accident, says Maria Linné.

    It is unclear if other people were traveling in the vehicle.

    – There seems to be only one, but I can’t say for sure. But it is the driver who goes to the hospital first.

    Update:

    Later in the morning, the police announced that the driver was sober at the time of the accident, and that the cause of the accident will be investigated.

  • Risk of torrential rain in Götaland

    Expect rain, in some places downpour-like, SMHI warns, in many places up to southern Norrland today. But the situation is said to be difficult to assess.

    In western Götaland, Västtrafik already issued a notice of canceled departures yesterday. According to P4 Väst, this applies, among other things, to trains between Gothenburg and Strömstad and between Gothenburg and Vänersborg.

    Yellow warnings for torrential rain are in place for Götaland and southwestern Värmland. A lot of rain can fall there in a short time.

    According to SMHI, the situation is difficult to assess, including how quickly the area moves in from the southwest and further up the country, from Götaland into Svealand and up to southern Norrland.

    Further up in the country, variable cloudiness and some local showers are forecast.

  • Asa believers can get first burial place

    Asa believers can have their own burial place in Karlstad Diocese, the first in Sweden.

    In 2023, the Nordic Asa community applied for a special burial ground for Asa believers to be established in the diocese. Karlstad’s pastorate has proposed that it be built in Molkom.

    The burial site is to be located just outside Nyed’s cemetery, as the Asa community wants a burial site that is not in consecrated ground. If the proposal is accepted by the County Administrative Board, it will be Sweden’s first contemporary burial site for Asa believers.

  • Zelenskyy calls for action before the election

    The outside world cannot wait for the results of the American presidential election in November before taking measures to stop Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.

    That’s what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who is on site in connection with the NATO summit in Washington, said on Tuesday evening:

    – It is time to step out of the shadows and forcefully make a decision to act and not wait until November or some other month to take action.

  • Fire in apartment building

    A 65-year-old woman has been taken to hospital after an apartment fire in Bro.

    The police have filed a report of public negligence.

    The fire is out.

    Good question Bengt! And it’s probably not something I can answer, but a big difference between Sweden and the USA is that election day here is always a holiday, which at least makes it possible for more people to vote without having to take time off (if you don’t vote early then).

    I wouldn’t say we do, and when it came to the issue of pacifiers, it was a recall. So quite important information for parents.

    Then it is not always the case that we can let all questions go through, e.g. those that contain serious violations or name publications that we ourselves have not made.
