Players of Helldivers 2 have found a way to survive falls from great heights. To do so, they use a specific emote. It brings them safely back to earth and puts a grin on their face.
What is the damage? If you fall from a great height in Helldivers 2, you will suffer fall damage. Depending on how high you were before, this can be fatal. If you stand in explosions, you can also be thrown across the map – in this case, too, the impact can be fatal.
Clever players have now found a way to at least partially circumvent the problem. They use emotes to prevent the hard and deadly impact. The important thing is that the timing is right.
An emote can save lives
Which emote is it? Emotes are one of the mechanics that not all players may know about, but they can be very useful, as can eight other hidden features of Helldivers 2.
As the user Chunke-Funke-Monke clearly shows in a post on Reddit, an emote can help you survive the fall. In the video he shows it with the “High Five” emote, but the hug, which has already saved the lives of other Helldivers players, is also said to work.
If you fall from a great height in the game, you have to use one of the emotes mentioned at the right moment. Your character performs it while flying and thus goes into a kind of “freeze”. If you get the timing right, you will hit the ground while you are still in the animation. This way, the fall damage is ignored and you survive.
Players suspect that this is a bug that developer Arrowhand could patch in the future. It may be caused by physics that calculate damage to different parts of the body differently.
The players’ theory is that the rigid body position during the emote ensures that only a small part of you impacts, such as one hand. Therefore, damage is only calculated at that point, and the damage is correspondingly low.
What do players think about the bug? As expected, the discovery has been well received by Helldivers players. Chunke-Funke-Monke, who posted the clip on Reddit, thanks the stranger who gave him the idea to try out the trick with the emote.
Other users in the comments also find it useful and are amused by the funny image of the rigid soldier in the air:
It remains to be seen whether Arrowhead will take care of the bug and remove it or whether the studio will leave the “T-Pose of Democracy” in the game and thus save many brave soldiers from certain death. Apart from that, Helldivers 2 is currently experiencing a lull – read on MeinMMO what the low player numbers are all about.
