The fourth episode of the “Despicable Me” saga is released in theaters on Wednesday, July 10. We saw it before its release, here is our critical opinion.

The saga Despicable Me continues to arouse the curiosity of the spectators. After Minions 2 released in 2022 only, a new episode of the franchise featuring Gru is to be seen in theaters this Wednesday, July 10, 2024. In this fourth installment, Gru’s family grows with the birth of Gru Junior, who loves to torture his father. And our hero, played by Gad Elmaleh in VF, is not at the end of his troubles when a new enemy, Maxime Le Mal, threatens his family, forcing him to flee and live a normal life under a false identity.

Like the previous parts, this Despicable Me 4 continues to carry the viewer away in a fast-paced plot, with almost no downtime, punctuated by a succession of gags that will not fail to make the youngest hilarious and the oldest smile. If we find the characters and the universe with a certain pleasure, and if the quality of the animation is always there, the franchise is starting to repeat itself and no longer seems to have much to tell.

Young father of a son after having learned the joys of fatherhood with his adopted daughters, Gru has nothing more to learn and seems to stagnate, like the other characters. The plots started never come together and unfortunately do not always conclude with satisfaction. We see the strings, and adult viewers will not have the pleasure of appreciating a different level of reading, nor of discovering a deeper message, unlike other animated films visible in theaters at the same time.

The film is certainly funny at times, but especially boring when you realize that it is more of a succession of sketches than a unitary one. The situations from the previous episodes are repeated and we will ultimately have nothing more to sink our teeth into than a succession of buffoonery that is sometimes funny, but whose use is not well balanced. Even the Minions, once hilarious, are starting to become irritating. Despicable Me has been a great saga to watch evolve and expand in theaters, but maybe it’s time for it to end.

Synopsis – Gru, Lucy and the girls, Margo, Edith and Agnes welcome the youngest of the family, Gru Junior, who seems to have only one passion: to drive his father crazy. But Gru is confronted with a new enemy Maxime Le Mal who, with the help of his girlfriend, the fatal Valentina, will force the whole family to flee.
