After a gloomy June, summer finally seems to be on the horizon. The weather forecast is predicting a return to drier, sunnier weather.
Will summer finally settle in France? While the school holidays began on the evening of July 5, the sun and heat are still waiting. It was rather time for the first storms, predicted over a large part of the country but without the good weather setting in for good. Good news, that will change… But we will have to be a little more patient.
The culprit? The famous Azores anticyclone, well known to attentive weather followers. It largely determines the trajectory of the disturbances that reach us from the Atlantic. However, since spring, it has been absent, with a jet stream wind positioned further south than usual, notes Nicolas Borgognon, forecaster at MeteoNews.
However, forecasters agree on one date: July 14. Our famous national holiday should mark a turning point for our meteorological summer. After a first half of July that was still mixed, it was about time, but the famous anticyclone should settle in for a long time over the country. Temperatures will rise to reach seasonal values, or even slightly higher than normal. No heatwave in sight for the moment according to La Chaîne Météo, but pleasant summer weather to enjoy the holidays. Finally, some good news for July holidaymakers!
Some regions will be favored but will also be exposed more to the heat. This improvement should continue until the end of the month. The heat will gradually increase, especially in the south. Here too, a date or rather a period should be remembered: the approach of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games scheduled for July 26 in Paris. If the risk of heatwave seems limited in the north, the large cities in the south of the country could thus experience an episode of very high heat at the end of the month.
These forecasts are yet to be confirmed as the first trends for the rest and end of the summer. While heavier and stormier weather is expected at the beginning of August, particularly from the southwest to the eastern borders, the northwest and the Mediterranean regions would maintain more stable weather.
Météo France reminds us, however, that these seasonal forecasts should be taken with caution. These are trends and not firm forecasts. They give an idea of the average weather expected over a given period but do not exclude significant variations from one week to the next or from one region to another. It is therefore impossible to guarantee to August residents impatient to go on holiday that they will have the sun they have been hoping for since spring in a few weeks!
