A planned road work created kilometer-long queues on the E4 outside Nyköping on Monday.
Now the Swedish Transport Administration backs down and switches from day to night work.
– There will be an impact on traffic. You can’t think that you can drive as usual, says Trafikverket’s communicator Maria Mauritzon.
Between July 8 and 12, road work is underway on the E4 between Nyköping and Norrköping.
On Monday, work began on asphalting the section Gammelsta to Stavsjö – which created traffic chaos.
The Swedish Transport Administration has previously warned about the planned road work on its website, despite this, kilometer-long queues were created.
– We have had exactly the same diversion in previous summers. I don’t know what the queues are due to now, says Trafikverket’s communicator Maria Mauritzon.
Several media outlets have reported on vacationers stuck in traffic for hours.
– We have made measurements of the 24-hour traffic, but sometimes it is difficult to predict what will lead to the formation of queues. We had not expected such long queues.
The Swedish Transport Administration backs up – redirects
Now the Swedish Transport Administration has chosen to redirect the road work from daytime to nighttime. And the traffic is instead diverted at traffic stop Gammelsta via route 800.
– There will be an impact on traffic. You cannot think that you can drive as usual.
The road work is planned to be completed on Friday.
