Id hijacking can happen via fake address changes

The address change website provided by Postnord and CityMail is owned by Svensk Adressändring AB. It doesn’t take much for a person to have their mail forwarded to another address. This means that anyone can go in and change someone else’s address.

Fraudsters can then get hold of sensitive information by having the mail forwarded to themselves. New credit cards or information from the bank can then end up in the hands of a fraudster. The fraudster can then also buy goods or services in the name of the victim.

The address changes carried out by fraudsters take place via paper forms which are then sent to the Swedish Tax Agency.

How to prevent false address changes

However, false address changes can be prevented.

Swedish Adressändring’s website has a function called “Addresslåset”. Upon activation, only the person who has access to the user’s BankID login can change the same person’s address.

In connection with the increased number of frauds, “Addresslåset” has now received new functions, something like PC for everyone Be the first to write about.

The add-on is a complement to the Tax Agency’s function “Block unauthorized address change”, which means that one’s address can only be changed digitally via BankID and not via post.

Nowadays, anyone who uses the Swedish Address Change “Addresslåset” can receive notices directly if someone in the civil registry registers at the same address as themselves. The “address lock” also makes it possible to see who is written to one’s address.
