WhatsApp is developing a feature that will analyze and edit your photos using artificial intelligence. All you have to do is describe in a few words what you want to edit or know.
Would you like some more artificial intelligence? The popular instant messaging service WhatsApp is also going to get its dose of AI – after all, it’s all the rage right now and everyone is putting it everywhere! Meta, the parent company, had clearly announced that it would integrate several tools of this type into the application, such as the generation of personalized stickers and a chatbot called Meta AI with which we can chat, obtain information and even generate a profile photo of ourselves. But it doesn’t intend to stop there! The specialized site WABetaInfo discovered, in the beta version 2.24.14.20 of the WhatsApp Android application, an image analysis and editing function using artificial intelligence.
Photo editing on WhatsApp: AI to the rescue
Meta AI, the artificial intelligence-boosted assistant, has been available since mid-April on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp in many regions of the world, but not yet in Europe, where European regulations are much stricter regarding the confidentiality of users’ personal data – moreover, Meta is struggling with the authorities, who consider its paid subscription illegal (see our article). But that doesn’t stop the chatbot from gradually adding new functions. The latest is a camera-shaped button available directly in Meta AI’s chat.
As you can see in the screenshot above, this new button allows you to manually share information and photos with the artificial intelligence, so that it can analyze them and answer the user’s questions. This allows you to find out about places or objects displayed in the image, for example. This function also allows you to automatically edit the photo in question, by giving instructions to the AI - such as “enhance the brightness” or “apply a retro filter” – which then executes within seconds. No need to go through a third-party application! Suffice to say that this saves precious time!
AI means data privacy. Meta assures that the photos sent can be deleted at any time. It remains to be seen whether they will be used in the meantime to train its AI model…
