President of the United States Joe Biden has on Monday sent an open letter to Democratic politicians who have returned to Washington from their summer vacations.

In his letter, Biden says he remains fully committed to his presidential campaign and calls on congressional Democrats to “stop the drama” around him.

Biden’s approval ratings plummeted after an election debate held in the United States in late June, in which he appeared significantly ahead of his opponent Donald Trump more quietly.

The president, who turns 82 this year, seemed tired and absent during the debate. Biden himself has said that he fell ill with a severe flu on the eve of the debate and stated that he is able to continue his campaign.

After the debate, the Democratic camp has begun to increasingly doubt Biden’s ability to defeat Trump and the conditions to continue as president for a four-year extension.

In his letter published on Monday, Biden states that he is aware of the concern people have. At the same time, however, he assures that he would not stand for election if he did not know that he would be able to defeat Trump.

The president says that he had long and fundamental discussions with the leaders of the Democratic Party.

– Voters decide on their presidential candidate alone. Experts, donors or the press do not, Biden writes.
