Finland’s Olympic selections for the Paris Olympics were completed on Monday with seventeen new athletes.
The board of the Finnish Olympic Committee confirmed the Olympic selections made by the elite sports unit for the Paris Olympics. In the eighth and last selection, the team was completed with seventeen new athletes.
The strength of the Finnish team in Paris is a total of 56 athletes, not including alternate representatives. There were 45 Finnish representatives in the Tokyo team and 54 in Rio.
– We have a great and versatile group of athletes representing Finland in Paris. There are athletes in a total of 14 different sports and our team is bigger than ever since 2000, says the manager of the Finnish team Leena Paavolainen.
According to Paavolainen, the total number is a clear indication that Finland is able to meet the challenges of the international level of requirements on a broad front.
– Getting to the Olympics is always a tough thing and every athlete selected for the Games has earned their place. With these choices, we want to promote the careers of Finnish athletes and the pursuit of their dreams.
– We have set a goal of a total of 10 medals for this Olympics in Beijing and Paris, so we aim for at least two medals in Paris, Paavolainen’s line.
