The French National Assembly (RN) and the Italian Lega also join Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s new party group in the EU Parliament, the Patriots of Europe (POE).

“Let’s join forces and fight together for a better future,” writes the Hungarian government’s international spokesman Zoltán Kovács on X.

The POE thus grows to the third largest party group in the parliament, after the Christian-democratic conservative EPP and the social-democratic S&D.

RN and Lega, like the majority of the member parties, were previously part of the party group ID, which is now disappearing. Orbán’s Hungarian governing party Fidesz, in turn, has been without a group since it was forced out of the EPP in 2021.
