Players complain: XDefiant is still broken with Season 1

The first season of the game in XDefiant just started recently. But the shooter is still plagued by many problems. Now the game’s boss has spoken out with some well-intentioned advice.

What about XDefiant? XDefiant started its first season on July 2nd. There was also a big update for the game that answered fans’ wishes. In addition to a new faction, there are also three new maps during the season as well as new weapons, cosmetic items and of course many bug fixes.

For many players, the new season is an opportunity to take a look at the game again, but the state of the shooter rarely brings joy. Problems such as bugs (via Reddit.com), cheaters (via Reddit.com) and criticism of the netcode and the new ranked mode (via Dualshockers.com) can be found on all common platforms.

X.com user @unfoundsoul4 even reached out to the game’s director and asked if the game was rushed out because of GTA 6 and the new Call of Duty Black Ops – and received an answer.

The engine doesn’t make things easy

How did the boss of the game respond? Mark Rubin, executive producer of XDefiant, answers the question about a rushed release on X.com in great detail. First of all, he makes it clear that the game was not rushed. The many errors have another reason and that is the game engine on which the game runs.

XDefiant was created on the “Snowdrop” engine, which, according to the game’s director, had previously “only ever been an MMO.” In fact, Tom Clancy’s The Division and its sequel run on the engine.

According to Rubin, the problems with the game engine are not due to the engine itself, but to the fact that “the entire infrastructure for an FPS [Anmerkung der Redaktion: First Person Shooter] rebuilt from scratch […]” had to become.

According to Mark Rubin, the competition, in turn, relied on engines for which shooters had already been developed. As examples, he cites Call of Duty with id tech and Apex Legends, which is based on a modified version of the Source Engine.

XDefiant, on the other hand, would develop everything from scratch in an engine that was not designed for it: “Apart from that, the engine is really great, but it requires a lot of work, and with that work comes a lot of bugs that other engines have already ironed out.”

What advice does he give to the players? The XDefiant boss has a clear message for the players of his title. “We are not a shooter that has been around for 20 years. If you like what we are trying to do, stick with it and you will see things improve and new features added. But if the game is not for you, that’s OK, you can move on.”

This is not the first time that the head of XDefiant has addressed the players. He once spoke to players who found the game really too hard and found clear words: The head of XDefiant believes: If you don’t find bad opponents, you are the bad opponents
