Olympic Deserters Czechoslovak Gymnast Maria Provaznikova

The 1948 London Olympics were the first to be held after World War II. In a Europe in the midst of reconstruction, the sports director of the Czechoslovak gymnastics team Maria Provaznikova publicly announced that she would not return to Prague. She was considered the first in a long line of Olympic deserters.
