Armand Duplanti’s perfectly clever gesture to the Swedish people on television – which everyone loves: “I know myself…”

Armand Duplantis was disturbed by strong winds.
But despite that, there were two new world record attempts – and above all, a new win in the Diamond League.
Afterwards, he gave the most elegant gesture to the Swedish people in the TV interview.

Armand Duplantis is honing his form before the big highlight of the season, the Olympics in Paris, and yesterday, Sunday, the world’s elite gathered in Paris for a prestigious Diamond League competition. Duplantis did exactly what was expected of him, winning the event by clearing 6 meters.

Won the genre rope

American Sam Kendricks was second in 5.95, and when it was clear that Mondo had won the event when he cleared 6.00, he made, as usual, another attempt at a new world record, at 6.25. But it wasn’t the best of conditions for Mondo and his rivals during Sunday’s races.

There was a strong headwind during all the jumps, and Mondo was even forced to stand over the first attempt as it was simply too windy, and an attempt would not have been safe. In the second attempt, Mondo was never even close to passing – but the third was all the better. However, it was not a new world record, but still a win in the prestigious competition in Paris, and a brilliant comeback before the Olympics in a few weeks, in the same city.

Wonderful gesture to the Swedish people

Afterwards, Armand Duplantis was honest about how much the wind actually affected during all the jumps.

– I had a bit of a problem with the wind today, sometimes it could be wonderful with a tailwind, but otherwise headwinds and from the side and everything possible, he tells TV4, and continues:

– I got a good tailwind on the last attempt, but it was almost too much.

However, Armand Duplantis got everyone cheering when he told us about how the shape really is – and he also made a cocky gesture when he ended the interview by blowing a kiss to the Swedish people at home on the TV sofa.

– Now it feels great, I feel healthy and strong. I have confidence and I’m ready for the Olympics, he says, before ending with a kiss.
