Man injured in downtown Chatham clash, CK police investigating

The criminal investigation division is investigating after a man was taken to hospital following a clash in downtown Chatham, said Chatham-Kent police.

Police said three 20-year-old men left an establishment shortly after midnight on Saturday, July 6, when they were confronted by a group of unknown men in the area of ​​King and Fourth streets.

A fight took place between the men, who did not know each other, police said.

Following the fight, police said an officer who was patrolling the area was approached and advised of the assault.

Several officers responded to the area, but could not find the suspects, police said.

A male was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries and later released, police said.

Crash knocks down traffic light, driver flees

Chatham-Kent police are seeking the public’s help following a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning that involved the driver leaving the scene.

Police said a vehicle crashed into a traffic light around 2 a.m. at Park Avenue and Queen Street, knocking it to the ground.

Despite the vehicle being severely damaged in the crash, the driver was able to leave the second before officers arrived, said police.

ALPR alerts CK police to stolen vehicle, man arrested

Technology helped Chatham-Kent police recover a stolen vehicle on Friday.

While travelling to an unrelated call, officers were alerted to a stolen vehicle through the ALPR (Automated License Plate Recognition) system, police said.

The vehicle was stopped on Patteson Avenue in Chatham and a 37-year-old Chatham man was arrested. He was charged with driving while under suspension and the stolen vehicle remains under investigation, police said.

The vehicle was returned to the registered owner, police added.
